I wanted to make this artwork for this project because it fits for both of my art teachers. Art II needed a project with the golden ratio inside of it, and Ceramics needed a colaboration of 2 pieces. I made a Jin Jang that goes with the golden ratio for this project. I chose red and blue for the colors because those colors represent good and evil. The message this sends is that there is a balance in between evil and good. This is my first project in which fits 2 projects criteria perfectly.
I chose glazing over any other method for painting the hornet nest because i wanted the outside to be a paper-grass mesh and give it some shine (not a lot).
I chose green to give it that grassy look that i wanted. For the animal morph project, i decided to do a bearded dragon morphing into a dragon. I use to have a bearded dragon growing up as a kid, but it died from a heart attack. A Bearded dragon is a desert lizard that can can expand its head like a cobra, but in a shape of a beard. I used pinch pot method in creating the head and the body. This is by far my favorite art project yet, the only problem I wish I had dealt with is the wings dried too fast for me, and I didn't get the sheet of clay on in time.
This Hive was my first attempt at the coil method for me. I even tried cloth for the added texture on the folds on the surface. I didn't come on this project thinking of a hive though, i got my insertion from the shape of the object i was making. It looked a lot like a hornet nest you would see in videos about guys trying to nock down them like idiots. I also incorporated a rose into it by having the folds fold out in certain places. I personally loved this project.
PS: I don't know how to get rid of the 1.'s Artists take risks.
On my newest slab project, we had to carve out a design on a slab of clay. We had to choose between four depths for this project, I took a risk and carved deep, close to the bottom and almost through just to add more depth. I carved near the bottom and risked puncturing through the clay; remember you can't put back what you take. This is also my first carving project, so i had to invent my own ways at carving.I started deep and worked myself up. (pistures will be here on monday) Artists Solve Problems... There were a few problems with my artwork during the process of creation. One problem that poped up was the side pocket on my box. It was hard to connect the pocket to the wall of the box, and even harder to support it. my solution to this problem is slip and score it on, and support it from the outside. One of the pictures isn't here because i need a way to connect my phone to this computer to upload it. Artists Make Mistakes...
One mistake i had was with the tube I made for this box. When i applied the hot glue to the roller, it was uneven in the thickness, and bumpier in certain parts. This made it hard to rolle out the design on the box. This artwork is suppose to say be random, the design, handle, and overall shape is random; with curves and barely any straight lines. In life, you will meet complications, but those complications help shape who you are. Some issues around my work is the structure of the utensil holder on one of the side of the box. it was hard to support it when i was working on it, and it needed support itself from not falling off when done; so instead of reinforcing the inside of the pocket, i reinforced the outside.
Artists create original artwork I used my own idea about making a random pattern all through the tube for the slab box project, I did a bunch of random lines through the tube and it turned out ok. Artists communicate through their work. This artwork really expresses myself through my work, i like working randomly and on the spot. This artwork has a random design to it that makes it unique to me. 1. How did you use own unique ideas in your work?
- We are making totem spoons today, and i decided for one of my three items to add to is a M for my name. The spoon doesn't have enough space to incorporate that onto it, so i bended the M to fit the top of the spoon. 2. What is this artwork intended to say? - My spoon is trying to describe who i am as a person. I have a M for my name, and a wooden house on the back for my love of architecture. |
